At NorthStar, we utilize restorative practices to teach students to take responsibility for their behavior. This allows our students to repair the harm they have caused by aligning an action that directly relates to the harm done. Allowing the students to participate in assigning consequences provides them with opportunities to be accountable and buy into consequences. Restorative practices are effective in our environment because they turn conflict or other disruptive behavior into learning opportunities.

PBIS

Supporting students through positive reinforcements and interventions that allow staff to guide or coach behavioral choices is what our PBIS program is all about. This stance allows us to operate in a proactive manner rather than a reactive manner with our students and their behavioral choices. We take time each week to foster compassion, accountability, respect, and engaged through our C.A.R.E. Model. When we observe kiddos modeling any of the components of CARE we reinforce that choice with a CARE card. Each week all the students who have earned a CARE card have a chance to win the honor of being “Student of the Week!”
